We, here at Larke Kennels, raise all our puppies in our home. They are exposed to various household sights and sounds. When weather permits, they are taken outside to our outside puppy kennel yard for a few hours daily. We have frequent visits from our 5 grandchildren ranging from 3 year to 11 years old, which is great exposure to children. I've been ask more recently if we are a puppy mill. Our dogs are all housebroken and are a part of our family. They do not spend their life in a kennel. They receive the best medical care that is humanly possible. They are fed a high quality dog food. The most important thing they are given a lot of love and attention. We have 4 acres fenced in that they get out to run and play through out the day.

We strive to breed for healthy puppies and for temperaments for pet companions. All of our dogs have either field or show titled dogs in their pedigrees. One puppy sired by one our males is competing in the Dock Dogs and has placed. We have produced numerous puppies that have become good hunters and hunt test dogs. We recommend socialization. It begins as soon as your puppy gets home. Also, an obedience class is highly recommended for your puppy.

Our puppies come with a 26 month guarantee that covers hips, elbows and retinal dysplasia. We guarantee our puppies not to be EIC affected.  Pups have dewclaws removed by a vet, been wormed, first series of shots and vet checked at 6-7 weeks old. We require $150 non-refundable deposit to hold your pick. We take deposits ahead of time. The deposit is refundable if the desired color and sex is not born. You may also transfer  that deposit to another litter. Prices vary from litter to litter, plus sales tax. Contact us for info. We reserve the right to keep the first pick open from a litter for ourselves. We charge $10/day boarding fee if puppy is at our kennel more than 2 days after the designated pick-up date.

NEW PA STATE LAW - As of Dec. 8, 2008 puppies can not leave our kennel until they are 8 weeks old!

All puppies are sold on limited registration. Full registration will be given once the OFA and CERF certifications have been obtained. Copies of the certifications must be sent to the breeder. Full registration puppies are higher price so please call for more info.

We permit visitors when puppies are 4 weeks old by appointment. This is to protect the puppies due to a lower immune system. We post picture updates of the litters once they are born on our website as time permits. You are welcome to visit Larke Lab Kennels to see all our dogs by appointment only.

Our puppies are fed Eukanuba Large Breed puppy food. We strongly recommend keeping them on this food. If you feel the need to change, please keep them on a quality large breed puppy food.

Larke Lab Kennels is happy to announce a new service that we are offering for our potential puppy buyers.

For those of you unsure on how to housebreak, train your new puppy, or just don’t have the time, we can refer you to Elaine Dull.  She will take your puppy to her home and start working with him/her on housebreaking, crate training and basic obedience commands (sit, stay, lay down, etc…)  The charge is $11/day and will include boarding, food/treats & training.  You can work with Elaine to let her know what you expect or what you want her to focus on.

Your puppy will be kept in her house and socialized with her other 6 dogs, 4 of which came from Larke Kennels. She also has an 12 year old son, who loves to play with the pups also. The average time takes about 4 to 6 weeks to get the foundation down for housebreaking.  Depending on the dog and your expectations, it may take a little longer or a little less time.  You can work out the specifics with Elaine.

Elaine is also available to deliver puppies to their new homes for those who don't want to travel to central PA.

If you're interested, please let us know and we will get you in contact with Elaine. References are available upon request.

Bella                                                                                                        Major

Bella is a Berg Brothers Dog from Minnesota. The lineage shows many American Field Champions.  Bella is a tri-color that weighs about 48 lbs. She has her Natural Ability title with NAVHDA with a Prize 3. Her hips are OFA excellent, elbows normal and has a clear CERF (eyes) She has a very stanch point. She was professionally trained by Curt Fry of Slamming Point Kennels.

Major is tri-color and weighs about 60 lbs. His hips are OFA good, elbows are normal and has a clear CERF (eyes). Major, also is a house dog, is calm and "quiet" and has a real love for kids. He is an awesome dog to watch in the field. Major also is trained by Curt Fry of Slamming Point Kennels of New Brighton, PA. Curt would be more than happy to talk to you about either Major or Bella. Major has his AKC MH title and NAVHDA Versatile title.

Bella and Major are both registered AKC, Field Dog Stud Book and NAVHDA.

Below is some information from our trainer, Curt Fry about Major:

Major is an extremely talented, intelligent dog. His first exposure to hunt test competition came in 2006 when he was awarded a Natural Ability Prize 1 within the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) testing system, scoring a maximum score of 112 points. The NAVHDA Natural Ability test measure a young dogs ability to find and point birds, retrieve from the water, and track wounded game.

Major continued his training and matured into an exceptional bird dog. In 2010 and 2011 major competed in the American Kennel Club (AKC) Master Hunt Test competition and passed 6 out of 7 test to earn his Master Hunter (MH) title. The Master Hunter Title is reserved for exception dogs that demonstrate at the highest level the ability to find birds, point/retrieve and be steady to wing, shot, and fall.

Next Major competed in NAVHDA at the Utility Level. The Utility Test measures a finished bird dogs ability to hunt in the field and find and point game as well as retrieve on land and water. The dogs need to be steady to wing, shot, and fall. They are required to perform a duck search in a swamp, and track and retrieve a duck at over 100 meters. They also need to show obedience and remain by a duck blind while the handler walks out of sight and shots are fired. Lastly they have to heel through heeling stakes on their way to a duck blind. In November of 2010, Major earned a Utility Prize 1 scoring a maximum score of 204 points. By earning a Utility Prize 1, Major was qualified to run at the NAVHDA Invitational to compete for the coveted title of Versatile Champion (VC).

The NAVHDA Invitational is reported to be the toughest test in the gun dog world and is reserved for only the top performers in NAVHDA (Only Prize 1 Utility Dogs are eligible). The dogs must run in the field with a brace mate for an hour and demonstrate strong search, pointing, backing, and be steady to wing, shot and fall. They must execute a 100 yard blind retrieve across water, and honor another dog during a duck retrieve. Lastly, they must perform a double mark retrieve of two duck on the water in the reverse order in which they are thrown with a diversion shot. And, during judgment, they are off lead and must be heeled to each venue off lead. It is truly a tough test and only about 50% of the eligible dogs earn VC titles.

On September 15, 2011, Major and his trainer/handler Curt Fry of Slamming Point Kennel, arrived in Bloomingdale, OH to run in the NAVHDA Invitational. The weather was poor at best with high winds and steady rain. In the end, Major and Curt executed each phase of the Invitational Test to the highest degree of competency and scored a maximum score of 200 points and earned Major’s Versatile Champion Title (VC).

Ellie is an affectionate little girl. She has a very unique, outgoing personality. Ellie has been used for hunting at a nearby hunting preserve. She has proven herself to be a very good upland bird dog. I am keeping the first pick of a female from this litter because of the awesome pedigrees. Ellie's hips are OFA excellent and elbows are normal. She has a clear CERF and is EIC clear.

Gus is an 80 lb chocolate male who has his AKC SH and one pass towards his AKC MH title. His hips are OFA good and elbows are OFA normal. He is has a clear CERF (eyes) He is also EIC clear. Gus is owned by Tracey Cox of Burnt Cabins, PA. Gus is being used for upland bird hunting and is doing quite well.

The information below is from Gus's breeder/trainer, Joe Dutro.

The litter that produced Gus was from my MH female Dora and FC/AFC Drake. We did this liter in hopes of creating a high energy dog that was still very trainable and willing to work with the handlers. I feel we succeeded. All of the pups in that liter titled at a very early age. After training 2 other Master Hunters, 3 Senior Hunters and 1 Junior Hunter, Gus is the easiest dog I have ever trained. He learns very quickly with little to no pressure. Gus is eager to please and loves to train. He is an intense dog that stays focused at the task at hand. Gus is an extremely good marker that stays in the area until he digs up the bird. That being said Gus is the perfect dog in the house with family and kids. He definitely has the on/off switch.

Gus came to me for training in late March at 18 months old. Over the course of the next 6 months Gus earned his Junior Hunter Title, went 4/5 to earn his Senior Hunter Title and received his first Master pass all before turning 2 years of age. To say that Gus is a good dog is an understatement. Gus is the dog that we all hope to own at least 1 time in our life. I am just thankful I have had the opportunity to work with Gus.
